Produttori del Barbaresco
A cooperative model of excellence in the heart of Piedmont.
Founded in 1958, Produttori del Barbaresco is today one of Piedmont’s leading wineries and a unique global benchmark for cooperative excellence. Its roots date back to 1894, when Domizio Cavazza first recognized the distinct identity of Barbaresco’s Nebbiolo, a legacy that was firmly consolidated after the Second World War thanks to the social and quality-driven vision of Don Fiorino Marengo.
From the outset, the winery has pursued a clear objective: to guarantee the quality and typicity of Barbaresco, uniting small winegrowers under strict rules based on grape quality and absolute respect for the land. Today, with more than 50 members and a well-established international reputation, Produttori del Barbaresco stands as an exemplary synthesis of tradition, consistency and terroir expression.
The Vineyards
Produttori del Barbaresco farms 120 hectares of vineyards, all planted exclusively with Nebbiolo, spread across the historic municipalities of Barbaresco, Neive, Treiso and San Rocco Seno d’Elvio. This privileged area, in the heart of the Langhe, offers some of the finest exposures and soils for cultivating the variety.
The vineyards are located on well-ventilated hillsides with marl-limestone soils and optimal exposures that promote slow, even ripening. Nebbiolo is planted only in the best parcels, following traditional viticultural practices rooted in deep, generational knowledge.
Among these sites are nine historic crus —Asili, Montefico, Montestefano, Muncagota, Ovello, Pajè, Pora, Rabajà and Rio Sordo— each precisely expressing the diverse personalities of Barbaresco and playing a key role in establishing the winery’s international prestige.
Winemaking Philosophy
The winery vinifies exclusively Nebbiolo sourced from its members’ vineyards, without exception.
Winemaking follows traditional methods, with long macerations and ageing in large oak casks, ensuring the wood never overshadows the wine. Barbaresco DOCG is aged for approximately 20 months, while Barbaresco Riserva wines —produced only in outstanding vintages— undergo around 30 months of ageing and are released after four years.
All crus are vinified in exactly the same way, allowing differences in soil, exposure and microclimate to emerge with clarity. The result is a range of classical, long-lived and precise wines, deeply connected to their origin.
